The term archiereus according to the Concordance of Rengstorf appears 53 times in the last four books of Josephus Flavius’ The Antiquities of the Jews (17-20). In the majority of cases it is the noun in singular, only in some cases it appears in plural. Usually it determines the person who comes from the Jewish nation, but twice it refers to the Caesar Klaudius Tiberius (Tiberios Klaudios Kaisar Sebastos Germanikos) describing him with his - probably official - title: archiereus megistos ([19, 280]; 19, 287).
